Because over 41 million people are living with HIV/AIDS – among them, roughly one-third are young people between the ages of 15 and 24; because more than 14,000 people were infected with HIV last year; and because AIDS is the deadliest infectious disease among adults and the fourth leading cause of death worldwide, every MISTER SINGAPORE has the job of traveling the world to speak on behalf of his official cause, HIV/AIDS awareness.
MISTER SINGAPORE uses his title to champion HIV/AIDS prevention, particularly among adolescents. During his term, MISTER SINGAPORE will work with Action for AIDS.
We encourage you to contact Action for AIDS. By educating yourself about HIV/AIDS, lending a hand and making a donation, you too can help!
ACTION FOR AIDS
Action for AIDS is a Singapore charity that was formed in 1988 and granted IPC status under the Ministry of Health in 2004. They provide support and assistance to HIV-infected persons and their families, run education programs to groups who engage in high-risk behaviors, and encourage AIDS-related research activities. Action for AIDS is a caring non-government organization committed to AIDS prevention, advocacy and support. Our mission is to prevent transmission of HIV/AIDS through continuous education targeted at vulnerable groups; to advocate for access to affordable care and against HIV/AIDS discrimination; and to provide support for persons living with HIV/AIDS, caregivers and volunteers.
